THERE IS DUBBED ONE PIECE IN MY HOUSE.

Make it go away! I'll do anything! I don't like dubbed anime to start with, and this is canon rape! I'd hidden from it until now, but this...this is worse than my most horrific nightmares.

AUGH I JUST HEARD SHANKS' VOICE.

Must...find song...that's one long solid wall of noise...drown it out...soul...being sucked out...talking like Shatner...not good...my voice acting...still better than theirs...

THE RAP, OH GODS, THE RAP.

I just saw the editing firsthand. It's the episode where Luffy explains how he got his hat, so I just watched the scene where Lucky Roux blows that mountain bandit's brains out all over the street.

"When he wakes up, tell him it was just a capgun."

YOU DON'T WAKE UP FROM BEING DEAD. *sporksporksporkSPORK*

At least it hurt Tiff as badly as I hurt me. She wanted to watch it as a test of personal strength. She barely made it through one episode, and had to watch the OP movie shorts to recover.

XD Yes, the dubbed One Piece had this effect on all of us (excluding me, I win at strength, but I so wanted to kill 4Kids for all they have done). If this scares you, don't listen to Usopp's or Sanji's voice. Just stay away from them all forever and you will have a happy and long life.

Vulnerability to dubbed anime is part of my character class--Chibis have a -4 to saving throws against bad dubbing. [/geekery]

But seriously, as bad as I'd heard it was, and as bad as the nibbles I'd heard were, seeing the actual, honest to gods cartoon--it doesn't deserve the title of "anime" after what 4Kids did to it--was infinitely worse.

I'll prolly die for this, but it's cartoons to me either way, even if it is from another country.

...But the One Piece dub is a SHIT cartoon. :D

Well, when I say "cartoons" I mean "animation". :P And it's all animation, whatever way ya look at it. You don't seem like the type, but it irks me when people get all snobby like "It's not cartoons, it's the great and honorable ANIME-SAMA! *turn up nose, walk off in a huff*" over it.

...Yanno, the word "anime" is a borrowed word in Japanese, anyway. :D *runs away from her own irrelevance*

I have sworn never to watch the dubbed version, unless for some reason I am unable to remove myself from the room and my eyes are held open to watch it... *shudders* All I hear are bad things about what 4Kids has done to it, and I am not interested in being scarred for life.

Now go and watch mucho raw/subbed episodes to try and clear your poor head. And never be tempted again, my dear.

I wasn't interested in watching it either. My roommate borrowed it, though, and threw it on in the same room as my computer. Morbid curiosity and an inability to drown it out completely made me watch about thirty seconds of it. I never want to see any of it ever again. What I've heard of Sanji's voice from the Grand Battle game was enough for me.

Oh, sweet uncut One Piece, how do I love thee? Mmmm, Dream Soccer Kings and Jango's Dance Carnival can fix anything.

You mean the wigga from New Joisey with a hideous head cold? I've heard it. I've played One Piece Grand Battle, and wept for the horrid giggles they substituted in instead of a proper "Melloriiiiiiiiine~!" when Sanji's fighting with the girls. And Sanji's special attack involves a long string of his stupid English attack names, all shouted out in David Moo's voice.

The friend I was playing with loved playing as Sanji and Kuro. I heard plenty of Sanji's voice acting "talents" in the hour it took for me to persuade him to mute it. I think he liked watching me scream, because he deliberately poked Sanji into making as much noise as possible.

Admittedly, it's not the same as the anime, but it was bad enough to convince me that 4Kids HQ needs bombing. *whimper*

OH GOD giggles?? With THAT voice?? He'd have to snort halfway through.

I was talking about OP with another student in my class...he said he'd only seen a couple, but what he'd seen he thought was pretty good. Then he revealed that this was the dub he was watching and I felt like hugging him and going, "it'll be okay, it'll be okay..."

Seriously. It sounds like Luffy's been gargling with gravel, and Zoro's voice sounds...weirdly off. Not a bad voice (I was actually surprised by that), but not right for Zoro, and I can't put my finger on why. Rawr.

Luffy's voice does sound like that. Whoever's doing the voice is going to ruin her vocal cords.

I accidentally caught a few minutes of the dub this week while flipping channels and they were on the Arabasta filler arc with the town. Ace's voice wasn't too bad, aside from the fact that he was speaking clearly when he had his mouth full. *whack*

Zoro's dub voice isn't bad, either, but, like you said, he doesn't sound right. I think it's because he sounds rather calm, even when he's supposed to be surprised or angry. He's not emotionless, but he doesn't quite capture the emotions the way Zoro's original voice does.

I can't stand dub Sanji's voice. I changed the channel as soon as I heard him speak. Hell, I can't even read fanfiction where the authors have obviously only seen the dub. There was one pretty decent one on ffn that I had to backspace on because she was good enough to actually capture the dub Sanji's speech patterns and I couldn't stand the fact that I could hear the voice in my head. I left a review recommending the subs to her.

He just sounds so...so...normal. Like, a normal guy's voice, and I think that's a terrible explanation, but I can't think of a better one. All I can think is that Crispin Freeman would've been perfect for Zoro.

YES. When I hear dub-Zoro's voice, I don't see Zoro. I actually see someone like Jin from Samurai Champloo--older and considerably calmer. He just doesn't sound like a guy with green hair ought to sound.

I'll have to tell that one to [livejournal.com profile] mettathron. She lovingly refers to Crispin Freeman as "the King of Psycho Fruity Nutcases." She's still holding a grudge from the Slayers dub way back in the VHS days.

Well...Zoro is kinda gay...and he isn't entirely sane...

Exactly--dub!Zoro just sounds too calm, and I don't think the actor has the range to do him in full-on berzerker mode. He just doesn't sound...lethal! Or something.

And I have a soft spot for Crispin Freeman. The X dub was one of the first dub jobs I watched (and it was well done, all things considering) and the switch from Fuuma to CRAZYFUUMA! was a pretty awesome change. I think that's the 'range' I'm talking about--dub!Zoro always sounds just so base-line, and canon!Zoro's not one for getting worked up over much of anything, but dude, get him fired and it's ON BITCH. I really don't think the dub actor could pull that off.

I've seen quite a few episodes of the dubbed stuff. I can't say I liked it it. Luffy's laugh reminded me of Crusty The Clown from The Simpson's *shudder*. Let's just say I wasn't upset when YTV stopped showing it. Pax also tells me they chopped the shit out of it and mashed episodes together *shrugs*.

I watched mostly out of curiosity's sake because of the fics you and Pax wrote anyway not any real desire to actually see the show. I'm not liking the style of drawing much.

According to Wikipedia, 4Kids has cut "the equivalent of 32 episodes of material had been cut from what were originally 86 episodes, resulting in roughly 37% of the series being eliminated." Ouch.

One Piece tends to eat people despite its art style instead of because of it. ^_^

I'm picky about drawing style. I liked Weiss even though the production quality was crappy because the boys are just so damn pretty.

While Zoro looked good, the lips on Usopp icked me something fierce. Nami was drawn okay and I could even handle Luffy. They never got as far as Sanji *sigh* or Smoker and Ace *bigger sigh*. Some of the vilians... not so much. Maybe I'm spoiled by all the drool-inducing pretty of Saiyuki, Weiss (Kapitol not Gluhen *shudders*) YnM, AnK etc.
